A Lada Niva in Canuckistan? not something you see everyday. If I had somewhere to keep it I would of waited for the owner to see if he wanted to sell it.This thing was in awesome shape.

on a quiet morning you can hear the floor pan rusting out of them.

I saw a Lada 2106 at a junkyard in Canukistan. I almost shit my pants when I stumbled upon it. It was completely rusted out but never the less thought it was pretty cool. I know Lada sold a bunch of these here back in the 80s and 90s and I even recall seeing Lada office back in the late 90's in Toronto.

One day, I promise myself to get one as a winter beater. One day.

I remember these from 15-20 years ago in New-Brunswick. But I have never seen one in Alberta before and I have NEVER seen one in this good shape.

were they that bad for rust? you would think being from mother Russia these things would be pretty solid

I'm currently in an apartment so I don't have any extra parking. if it had space I would of stocked the owner until he decided to sell it

There's an old russian joke that is translated to something like:
How is a Lada like a Magic Wand?
They both only work in stories.
They're infamously unreliable. Russian build quality isn't all that great, seals don't seal and water gets in the floor. Sound insulation acts like a sponge and keeps the floor pan perpetually wet.

Niva! We've got one of those :)
It's a '96, but it's lead a pretty hard off-road life we reckon. We don't drive it on the road yet as it's still got a couple of things left to fix. We replaced the steering box as it had about 90 degrees of play, which is frankly terrifying on the road.
It's still got a knackered u-joint on a driveshaft and a sticky rear brake to fix before it's roadworthy, but it does very nicely carting bits and pieces up and down the field, and the construction site that is one side of our house :) diff-locks and low-range are useful things
